Angar welcomed the monster’s call and rejoiced in what he knew it would bring. He and his men were ready for the fight and eager to avenge the death of their loved ones. The first call was echoed by a second and then a third, each vocalization telling that the beasts were moving toward the Great Hall. Angar pulled the pike adorned with the creature’s skin from the ground and waved it over his head, waved it back and forth in heavy succession allowing the dead beast’s scent to carry as much as possible. The change in the dispersed was met with a call of rage. Angar scanned the darkness for sign of movement but saw none until the next scream cut the air. The four giants stood at the edge of the firelight. Angar dropped the pike, threw the hide over his shoulder and marched into the Great Hall.

The lead jötnar roared and beat its chest in challenge. The three that followed did the same and the night shook in a storm of animalistic cries and of heavy fists slapping taunt muscle. Angar entered the hall and made his way to its rear. He dropped the hide at his brother’s throne and took his sword and shield in hand. The beasts lunged over the outer steps to the hall and into the doorway. They sniffed the air and recognizing the scent of their kin exploded towards it. Thrain and Hauk slammed the doors closed and braced them shut. Only one of the beasts turned to this action and when it did the rafters came alive and arrows rained downward. The lead jötnar took two arrows to the chest and at the impact of the second launched itself twenty feet into the air. The beast’s two anvil fists splintered into the beam Havard stood upon. The impact knocked the archer backward and to the floor below. He landed on his back and the wind was knocked from his body. He struggled to breathe but had no time to do so. He notched an arrow and let it fly just as the beast landed at his feet. The arrow hit the monster just above the heart and it thundered in pain. It stepped forward and pinned Havard to the floor with a foot to the warrior’s neck. Havard twisted his head and bit into the jötnar’s foot. The giant pulled the three arrows from its chest and drove them down into Havard’s face. In the rafters above, Folkmar took aim and sent his last arrow into and through the skull of Havard’s killer. The beast fell forward and onto Havard in death. Folkmar leapt downward and onto the fallen beast and drove his sword into the spine just below the beast’s head.

Thrain met the beast charging the door with a pike and the momentum of the two colliding drove the spear into and through the giant’s lung. The jötnar struggled to pull the javelin from its chest but was met with a swing from Hauk’s axe that took its arm off at the elbow.
